I Never Choose the Fandom Life

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life gripped me tight and didn’t let go like a Whomping Willow.

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life broke me free from my mundane existence and ordered, “Don’t wander off!”.

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life taught me to shoot holes into a wall when bored.

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life pulled me aboard the Knight Bus in the middle of the night.

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life promised me all of time and space that I couldn’t resist.

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life caught hold of me and said, “Allons-y!”.

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life took me for a joyride in a TARDIS.

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life kept me up at midnight on my birthdays awaiting the friendly Giant.

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life opened the Pandorica showing me a better version of myself.

I never choose the fandom life,

The fandom life dragged me to 221b Baker Street, and I simply could never leave.

American Horror Story: Coven Teaser Trailers

0

Image

The American Horror Story franchise has done it again. The creeps, the thrills and chills are back to make you scream with terror, and this take they have raised the ‘stakes’. Yep, I am referring to the latest upcoming season that revolves around a Coven.

Known for its recurring cast and season-long plots, American Horror Story really seeps into the deep dark recesses of your mind, and before you know it you are transfixed, with wide unblinking eyes and an incoherent scream escaping your lips occasionally.

Keep your blankies close to hide under, and a few paper bags to breathe into cos the witches are coming to get you. Or rather get to you, whichever happens first.

The first teaser trailer is a combo of the first three teasers, and the second video is the fourth and latest teaser released.

Shocker, Shocker: Ben Affleck to Play the Invincible Batman

1

Image

Yes, this is no joke, and I am sure that the whole of Geek-verse is in shock and filled with mixed feelings over this news. I usually keep my aggressive violent psychopath-like tendencies under check (finally got the hang of that), however, this news calls for a break of all restraints.

Ben Affleck is alright, and he did a brilliant job with Argo, however, I am not sure that he can pull off playing the glorious and invincible superhero who makes the Avengers like a pack of tame choir boys, AKA the Batman. Lets see how its going to play out, there are still a couple of years for the movie to hit the theaters, maybe we can learn cope with this by then. Christian Bale, we will miss you, quite terribly.

Movie Review: The Conjuring

1

Image

Rating: 4 1/2 /5
The Conjuring has all the markers of a brilliant horror flick, and the ‘based on a real story’ tag line does nothing to soothe the chills that travel up and down your spine. Right from the first frame of the movie, The Conjuring will grip your nerve endings and keep sending incessant shockwaves through them for the next 96 minutes.

The Conjuring is based on one of Ed and Lorraine Warren’s most horrifying cases. For those of you who do not know the Warrens, they are what we today call ‘ghost-busters’. They have investigated a series of paranormal incidences in their time, and the Perron case in Rhode Island is the one that The Conjuring is based on.

Image

Carolyn and Rodger Perron move into an ancient farmhouse along with their five adorable daughters. However, before they can so much as settle in, the supernatural takes over. Seeing no way around it, Carolyn seeks help from Ed and Lorraine Warren, who then figure out that the farmhouse is a part of a 200 acres property that once belonged to a deranged… okay, I am not giving out more than that.

Image

The Conjuring employs all the old-school techniques that have been used in horror movies since time immemorial, and does so with utter brilliance. The sound effects are magnificent, and the simple yet mystifying performance by all the actors adds to the creepy and deviant aura of the movie. There are some movies that you just cannot miss, so what excuse do you have to miss a movie that comes with this warning:

Christopher Eccleston Returns with Thor: The Dark World

0

ImageWell, with all the uproar about Peter Capaldi being cast as the Twelfth Doctor, and David Tennant being rated as the most loved Doctor, Christopher Eccleston seems to have fallen into the backdrop. Agreed, he played the Doctor for only one season, he was still a marvelous Ninth Doctor.

I always thought that he was a little underrated for his ‘fantastic’ role as the Doctor, and so you can imagine my happiness when I read that he was to return in Thor: The Dark World as Malekith the villain. I think he is going to make a brilliant villain, what with his stunning piercing gaze and strong jawline, Marvel couldn’t have chosen a better villain.

ImageHere is the trailer to Thor: The Dark World; although Eccleston is not featured in the trailer, his absence is made up for by the cocky and magnificent Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Luther‘s Idris Elba. The movie is scheduled to release by the end of October.

Doctor Who Series Eight Premier

2

Okay, I don’t want to get too excited, but I think I am long past that point since I can barely sit straight on my chair, and the reason for that is these pictures that I found!

ImageImageNow I don’t know if these are just art works by a fan, but I am hoping against hope that there is some truth to them, and that the premier of season eight would have something to do with a Shakespearean plot!

PS: I do hope that that is not how the Twelfth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver is going to look, as it does seem a little lame. I am sorry; I am so, so sorry!

Goosebumps all over my Brain: The Twelfth Doctor Trailer

0

You know that feeling tingling feeling that you have in your skull when the blood is gushing through your brain (at least that is what I think happens, don’t really know the exact scientific thing that goes on in there), and you feel like this whole wave of goosebumps all over your mind and body? That is exactly how I felt once I had watched this trailer. It is just too marvelous and breathtaking and there are really no words to explain it, so its best that I leave you guys to watch the trailer and feel the feels for yourself!

PS: I am really excited to see Peter Capaldi play the Twelfth Doctor, I was rooting for Huge Laurie, but what the hell, you can’t have everything, can you?

The Most Fantastic and Underrated Dysfunctional Family: The Addams Family

0

Image

If you have never heard of or watched any cartoon, TV show or movie based on the Addams Family it is time you revoke your geek card, because if you like dysfunctional and creepy things, then it doesn’t and cannot get better than this.

When you watched the cartoons during your childhood you may have hid under your covers, terrified of this utterly petrifying family; then you got a little older and may have summoned the courage to watch the movie, chuckled at the black humour that is so craftily portrayed in the movies and rebuked yourself for being terrified of this strange yet adorable family. Whichever way you go it is hard to not develop a liking for this family of immortals, although how exactly they have acquired this immortality is unclear to this day.

ImageI managed to watch two of the movies based on the Addams family: The Addams Family, and The Addams Family Values. Gomez Addams, married to Morticia Addams lives in a creepy and ancient mansion along with Morticia’s mother and their two children Pugsley and Wednesday. They are madly in love with one another, expressing it in the most dysfunctionally romantic manner possible. Fester Addams is Gomez’s older brother and single, leading to the family plots revolving around a variety of women trying to grasp the Addams extravagant wealth by charming the older Addams. Lurch Addams, the butler, resembles a zombie, and has never had to remember a dialogue as he remains silent in the background, throwing around creepy stares.

ImageEven though the plot of the movies are pretty basic and nothing unique, the black humour that plays into the dialogues and the acting skills steal the show, making the movies a complete hit. The Addams Family Values is much darker and humorous than its predecessor, packing in a lot more thrills and laughs.

My favourite most character in the family is of course the older daughter, Wednesday Addams. She has been named after the most dreadful day of the week, and this reflects upon the family’s taste for anything that has the slightest link to tragedy or torment. Wednesday Addams is a poker faced girl who constantly dresses like she is off to a funeral, or rather that her entire life is a funeral, not that she would mind, I think nothing would please her more if that were the case.

Image

With a poker face and a sharp tongue paired with unmatched intelligence and love for everything creepy, Wednesday Addams makes me want to put up all of my daughters for adoption until I am blessed with one who is exactly like her. Wednesday is obsessed with homicidal tendencies at an age when ‘normal’ girls are obsessed with boys and make-up.

ImageAnother interesting addition to the family is Thing, who is nothing more than a hand, yes, you read that right. Thing is a hand with no body, and yet it seems to have a mind of its own as it can communicate with Gomez through sigh language or tapping on wood. Thing also arm wrestles with Gomez, brings in the mail, writes letters on Gomez’s behalf, and also gives Gomez a head massage when things get tough.

ImageThe Addams Family and The Addams Family Values do complete justice to the happily disgruntle family that loves misery and torture, so go on, give the geek in you a little dose of creepy and crazy bundled together in this joyride!

The Return of Sherlock Holmes

0

We all witnessed the heart wrenching Reichenbach fall and the ingenious survival of Sherlock Holmes, and all of us have racked our minds and divulged into the deepest recesses of the internet seeking an explanation of Sherlock’s escape from the deadly fall. If that wasn’t enough, BBC has released a ‘teaser trailer’ that will haunt and taunt you all the more.

This trailer is going to make you undertake some intense therapy in shrink’s office that is painted baby pink and filled with stuffed animals that you can hug and cry until the third season is released this November. The trailer shows all the beloved characters; there is Mrs. Hudson attending to the usual chores with a hint of sadness and apprehension in her eyes as if awaiting someone.

Image

Then there is Inspector Lestraude apparently investigating a scene and looking over his shoulder as if he sensed a presence. Of course Mycroft seems just as cool, calm and confident as if it is just another day at work when he looks up from his desk. Molly Hopper opens her locker and there seems to be a reflection in the mirror attached to the locker’s door, but before you can make sense of the reflection, its gone.

Image

Last but not the least, there is of course Dr John Watson, sporting a mustache, looking apprehensive and impatient awaiting someone at a restaurant, when the doors open and Sherlock walks in… YES, that is how we are left hanging, as if the Reichenbach fall wasn’t traumatising enough we have this teaser that leaves us high and dry. All this falls into your lap just when the 12th Doctor is about to be announced and you are barely managing to maintain a hold on your sanity. BBC One should rename itself ‘Trauma Central’.
